Project Overview

SCI-Diabetes is an integrated diabetes system which brings together the functionality of SCI-DC Network, SCI-DC Clinical and specialty modules for Paediatrics, Podiatry, Diabetes Specialist Nursing (DSN) and Dietetics.

The first release of SCI-Diabetes which included SCI-DC Network, a Paediatric summary and the infrastructure to support further module development was implemented in Western Isles on 22nd August 2011.

Specialty development has continued and SCI-Diabetes now includes functionality for Clinical Support, Paediatrics, DSN, Podiatry and Dietetics together with In-Patient Monitoring and Management.

Agreed enhancements to the system will continue until March 2014.

As of April 2013 all Health Boards have moved away from SCI-DC Network and are now live on SCI-Diabetes. Migrations away from SCI-DC Clinical will continue and for the remaining Health Boards this is being arranged and coordinated by the SCI-DC Technical Support and Implementation Manager. It is hoped that all Health Boards will be able to decommission SCI-DC Clinical by March 2014.

Sensitivity

In order to test the sensitivity of the SCI-DC systems for identifying individuals with diabetes in Scotland we used data collected by the Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programme which uses a person’s inclusion on SCI-DC to initiate an invitation for retinal screening. In 2010 191,571 individuals were invited for screening of whom 2% were suspended from the screening programme due to the person not having diabetes. Further work continues to document further sensitivity and specificity factors.
